Introduction Note
Book Reports

Throughout the year we assign the students different book reports to help to introduce them to books and even to a genre they may not often decide to read.  Each book must be at least 100 pages or more.  We require the students to get their book approved by us before they begin reading.  The students will have the opportunity to pick a book from the classroom library or the school library.  If you would like to buy them a book please feel free to do so but we do not expect it.  We are asking that the students do not pick Diary of a Wimpy Kid as a book for the reports.  Although the students enjoy reading this book we feel this is an opportunity to give them a chance to explore other books with a more substantial reading.  The reports and reading of the book is a home assignment.  The students may read their book at school during DEAR time or when they finish an assignment early but the rest is to be completed at home and brought in by the due date.  The students will be given between 3-4 weeks to read and complete the assignment.  They will then present their book and project in school to their classmates which will allow the students to hear what books their peers are reading, their opinions of the book, and hopefully spike an interest in their peers to then read one of the books presented.
